HOUSE OF CHOI

경주 최씨가문(崔富者家)은 1779년 부터 경주 교동(교촌)에 터를 잡고 250여년이 넘는 기간 동안 부를 이어왔습니다.

 9대진사, 12대 만석으로 유명한 경주의 최부잣집은 지역민과의 상생, 독립운동, 사학설립과 기부등으로 한국형 노블리스 오블리주의 본보기로 평가받고 있습니다. 2022년부터 '하우스 오브 초이'는 경주 교동(교촌) 최부잣집의 역사, 육연과 육훈, 그안에 집약된 과거, 현재, 미래로 이어지는 최부잣집의 정신을 본보기로 전통을 품은 우리의 삶을 더 가치있게 만들기 위한 노력을 하고 있습니다.

Since 1779, the Gyeongju Choi Family has called Gyo-dong (Gyochon) in Gyeongju its home, sustaining a legacy of prosperity for over 250 years. The Choi family of Gyeongju, founded by General Choi Jin-rip, played a key role in the Imjin War and the Manchu invasions. His son, Choi Dong-ryang, restored the family’s wealth by cultivating war-damaged lands, laying the foundation for future generations. By the third generation, Choi Guk-seon focused on charity and community, establishing the family’s legacy of moral wealth. The 12th generation, brothers Choi Jun and Choi Yun, contributed to the independence movement and later donated their wealth to establish universities. The Choi family's principles of integrity and philanthropy, along with their six guiding values, remain influential as a model of noble leadership and modern business ethics.

1. 자처초연(自處超然) : 스스로 초연하게 지내고

2. 처인애연(處人靄然) : 남에게 온화하게 대하며

3. 무사징연(無事澄然) : 일이 없을 때 마음을 맑게 가지고

4. 유사참연(有事斬然) : 일을 당해서는 용감하게 대처하며

5. 득의 담연(得意澹然) : 성공했을 때는 담담하게 행동하고

6. 실의태연(失意泰然) : 실의에 빠졌을 때는 태연히 행동하라. ​

• 경주 최부자집 가문의 육훈(六訓)

1. 과거를 보되 진사 이상 벼슬을 하지 마라.

2. 만석 이상의 재산은 사회에 환원하라.

3. 흉년기에는 땅을 늘리지 마라.

4. 과객을 후하게 대접하라.

5. 주변 100리 안에 굶는 사람이 없도록 하라.

6. 시집온 며느리들은 3년간 무명옷을 입어라. ​
